Upgrading of Port of Salerno
This major infrastructural EU30m project envisages widening of the Salerno Commercial Harbor’s entrance. This busy port’s entrance is widened by extending the outer breakwater by 200m and by demolishing 100m of the inner breakwater whilst maintaining the port traffic operational at all times. The outer breakwater is constructed in precast reinforced concrete caissons which are fabricated on shore, floated in position, filled with water and submerged into place using GPS positioning to ensure the required accuracy. The outer breakwater is constructed at 18 ° towards the open sea, it is 180m long with the 20m base cone shaped at its tip. Both breakwaters are fitted with sea signs ensuring safe ship maneuvers. The project was tested hydraulically at the University of Naples, it was fully designed in 6 months and is currently being constructed on time and on schedule.
