Works on removing architectural barriers Venetian bridges, Venice – Riva degli Schiavoni and historic centre
After completion of the ramps on the first four bridges, starting from the Doge’s Palace (Ponte della Paglia, Ponte del Vin, Ponte della Pietà and Ponte San Sepolcro), the works will proceed immediately after Carnival with Ponte della Ca’ di Dio. The project follows the guidelines of the so-called Universal Design (or Design for All), which aims to create systems and infrastructures that are accessible to all categories of users, regardless of specific disability conditions.
The supporting structure is entirely in stainless steel. The uprights of the parapets are transformed, immediately below the deck, into the vertical profiles of a Vierendeel-type composite beam, in order to optimise the visual transparency of the structure. Innovative is the design of the pedestrian surface in self-supporting fibreglass plates, with high mechanical and anti-slip characteristics, low self weight and limited noise production, certified with special workshop and on-site tests.
