Molo VIII of Trieste ready after 2027
Last week saw the start of the authorization process for the new container terminal on Pier VIII in Trieste, which will allow the berthing of two 24-thousand TEU ships on seabeds at -18.00 m above sea level.
F&M Ingegneria was responsible for the technical-economic structural and plant engineering feasibility design of the two alternative models now under consideration for equipping and operating the terminal (ASC and Box Bay)
The ASC (Automated Stacking Cranes) model is a proven system that uses electric and automated rail-mounted cranes to handle containers; the Box Bay model is an innovative storage system (it would be the world’s first full-scale one) that allows containers to be handled within a large, fully automated warehouse without any movement of the containers already stored.
Both technologies promise high labor safety standards and reduced environmental impact.
