The Commencement of the Luban Journey in Dubai: Oman’s Pavilion Officially Breaks Ground
The foundation stone for Oman Pavilion at the Dubai World Expo 2020 was officially laid on the 10th of October and the official countdown has begun for the start of Expo, scheduled on the 20th November 2020. The ceremony was attended by HE Dr Ali Al Sunaidy, Oman’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, HE Mohsen Al-Balushi, Advisor to the Ministry of Commerce & industry and Commissioner-General of Sultanate of Oman at Expo 2020 Dubai, Hassan Al-Lawati, Adviser to the Minister of Heritage and Culture for Heritage Affairs, Deputy Commissioner- General of the Pavilion, Dr. Khalid Al-Jaradi, Sultanate’s ambassador to the UAE and Najib Al Ali, Executive Director of Expo 2020 Dubai. Also in attendance and showcasing the success of Omani and Italian collaboration of talents and extensive experiences was the Oman Pavilion’s Design Team: the Lead Design and Site Supervision Consultant, F&M Middle East, represented by their General Manager and Head of Design, Hazem Abdul Karim and Haneen Hammoudeh, and spearheading the consortium is the award winning SME, Innovation Factory represented by their CEO Firas Al-Balushi, Omani Project Management Company, Meezah represented by Noor Al-Zadjali, , and last and importantly not least are the two Omani concept designers of the Oman Pavilion, Alia al Battashi and Rehab al Zakawni.
The Oman Pavilion in Expo 2020 is titled ‘Generations of Opportunity’ and is based on storytelling of Luban and its lifecycle. The structure is made up of ground floor, first and second floors, with a BUA of about 2,200 sqm. The form is inspired from the Luban tree itself, and the path within the pavilion represents the Luban’s journey through time, it’s connections between great empires and civilizations and it’s future potential for Oman and the World.
